Woodturning Tool Body to use with Interchangeable Tool Handles

This tool body uses ¼ inch square tool bits. The tool body is 4140 chrome-moly steel measuring 9" long from the handle with a 3" tang. The main body is a 1/2" hex and the tang is 7/16 (11.1mm) diameter. It has a black-oxide protective coating and the cutting bit is high-speed tool steel. This will cut like a laser.
The tool body includes one tool bit and an Allen wrench for the screws that hold the bit in the tool. This will fit any handle with ½” or 12mm hole. The last two photos shows it in a handle with a 12mm opening. Though it is a loose fit the set screws will hold it securely. Or if you wish, you can make your own handle with a clearance hole to accept the tool body tang and use any good epoxy adhesive to secure it in the handle. You can also find several sources for ready-made handles and drill the handle to fit the tang.
The high-speed tool steel bit comes with both ends ground to a round nose. You can grind it to any shape you want for any special turning jobs you might have.
To sharpen or grind a different shape to the bit you should use something to hold the bit since holding with just your fingers is difficult and dangerous. You can make your own or purchase the tool with my bit holder. Choose the tool either with or without the holder.
